Night rider mod

I found a schematic and instructions on how to make a KITT (night rider) scanner here

I am experienced in electronics circuitry and I know I can make it. However it's designed to run of the 12v of a computer power supply.

1) Dont know how to say this, but is this mod lame? Has anyone seen this been done to a car before? Seems like it would be original, but it could possibly be cliche/obnoxious if tons of people have already done it

2) I've done LED mods with computers but I have no idea idea how I can do this type of thing with a car. Where can I get 12v from on a car?

3) Both computers and cars use 12v but will the difference in current (amperes) make this not possible?

Thats all the questions i can think of right now. thanks

after looking at it, I can see no reason why it will not work on a car, it runs only on "12v dc" so just wire it into the car, either hardwire it or plug it into the cigarette lighter socket.

Ken, Where are you? This a custom made mod for an Alfa and you have missed the fishing trip.

It's lame as f*ck on anything but a black Trans Am. Then it's just 'fairly lame'...

The battery...

You're the electronics engineer; work it out...

With the engine running you will be looking at 14+v but that's not a problem for any PC lighting stuff I have seen in cars (I used a pair of white cold cathodes to light my boot as the stock VW unit is stuck over to one side and too dark all I did was splice a Molex onto the wires so they came on together.)

2) Use the car battery but modify the design by including a 12V voltage regulator which can feed the IC's. Should only add a few quid to the build. And you may want to put a smoothing cap or two in between 12V and 0V to minimise the noise.

I live in Bradford. Every other Toyota-of-a-certain-age has one.

Innit ?
