floor jack lifting points

Where is everyone placing the floor jack to lift their Mustangs? (Font and rear)

Me: Rear lifting point is either side of the axle. Never at the center. Front lifting point is the notch for the stock jack and then lowered onto a jack-stand at the subframe. My front location seems questionable.

I've seen this question asked a few times, but I don't recall ever getting a good answer.

Thanks

My $0.018 (with tax, $0.02):

Front, I've always stuck the jack right under the center of the K member, being careful not to get the saddle on the oil pan. The stands either go under the control arms if I want the suspension loaded, or under the subframe if I want the suspension unloaded.

Rear, I used to jack under the pumpkin with padding, but I don't anymore. Now I jack each side individually, placing the jack under where the lower control arms attach to the axle. Stands then go under the axle, just inside of where the lower control arms attach.

I haven't yet had occasion to figure out a good spot for the stands so that the rear suspension could be unloaded. :)

The front lifting location /might/ be, if your jack doesn't straddle the notch properly, but the stand position sounds just fine.

Why not lift under the pumpkin?

Anybody have any first hand problems?

I put the jack stands on the rear frame beside the torque boxes if I want to unload the rear suspension. StuK

Anywhere along the subframe connectors. Handy for lifting the entire side of the car to rotate tires.

think about it, where is the weight on when the car is on the wheels ? For the front I usually just use the jack points where the car needs to be jacked up when changing oil, or right next to where the control arms are connected to.

for the rear I don't think the axle is a good spot. You're better off getting rhino ramps (17 bucks at pep-boys, best investment I've made on car stuff) or jack it up right in front of where the control arms connect to the frame. Remove NO-SPAM from email address when replying

I thought of that, but it didn't seem like I could put that much load on them. I have Steeda connectors.

I don't have any experience with Steeda's SFC's myself; I have a set of GW's on Charlene, and they're easily strong enough to lift the whole side of the car. If you have their full-length round subs installed, they should be fine for lifting.
