** i have a 97 gt with the #17 stock wheels on it. here is my problem. the
** clear coat is peeling and there are places all around the outer rim due
** to tire weights being put on over the years and around the center caps.
** they are starting to look bad!! and i would like to restore them, and
** make them look new again. are there any way to get the clear coat off?
** and fix the small curves skuffs on the outer rim? these are the polished
** alum 5 lug wheels. any 1 here ever fix or know of anyone restoring these
** wheels. thanks for any info. mike p
Most bodyshops can strip, polish and reapply the clearcoat in a few days.
From now on, don't let tire shops put weights on the outside edge. Most claim they cannot do a dynamic machine balance with the weights on the inside. This is a fantasy. I've insisted on this extra bit of 'service' for 25 years now, and I've never had a problem with it.
