Having always started first pull, every time for 17 years even in Switzerland in winter, today it didn't! No hum or tick from fuel pump.
RAC (AAA, etc) came out, worked hard, and found the following:
- Fuel pump ok (by powering fuse point, pump worked and car started)
- Fuel pump relay ok (shorting out ECU, relay engaged, pump worked, car started)
Thus concluded (and here I don't know what I'm talking about) that ECU was stopping earth side of relay. Suggested I get ECU tested (GBP40, if faulty, exchange ECU = GBP 250), and that if OK then the wiring to/from it is at fault..
The test specialists said they'd Never heard of this ECU going wrong. They reckon check wiring first to save wasting money.
Any similar experiences? Any clues?
TIA - sb
