I want to switch my 1990 2wd 2.4 4 cyl from 4 sp man trans to 5 sp. Can I use the same shifter, just get a new knob. Are there any bolt up or fit differences? Any driveshaft changes needed?

I have the same exact truck and would like to also switch to a 5 speed. It's a carburated 22RE. I looked at

but could not determine which 5 speed I could use and what mods might be necessary. Anyone with insight? I found a few 5 speed transmissions for sale locally but am not sure they'll work.

How much does the seller want for the 5 speed? I think mine is just about ready to be replaced. If you decide that you don't want/can't use that one, please let me know. I'm looking for a used 5 speed and so far all I've found around here they want $400+ for one. jj

$350-$400 is about the average. If you find one for less, beware...there might be something wrong with it.
