75A Alternator connections?

Hello,

I picked up a 75A alternator, and I have a few questions about the connections?

  1. There is the normal B+ terminal that is for the +12VDC output to the electrical system.

  1. But then there is a smaller terminal behind the B+ terminal that is not marked, is this the sense wire connection?

  2. I bought a rebuilt alternator, so the body is painted. There is a bolt connection near the regulator, should I use this for the ground connection? I assume there should be a ground connection to the alternator correct?

Thanks, Kurt

That goes to the battery.

Yes, the labeling should have been D+.

Yes, normal return path is through the engine case to the transaxle where the transaxle has a ground strap to the right framehorn north of the fuel line output. If the case is painted, you might either sand it off where it touches the stand or use the screw on the alt body as a supplement.

Remember, current out (+) is the same as current in (-). That's in conventional current flow, so don't get on my case about the direction of electrons.. Ok, maybe I'm just reminding myself as I've been known to wire diodes backwards on more than one occasion :( At least in tube circuits, electron flow is the way of thinking.. But I digress..

See Speedy Jim's website for more electrical info..

Ok,

I just looked at the alternator again, I forgot one. There is another terminal next to the D+ terminal (but a bit smaller). Any ideas of what this terminal would be? This terminal is still on the regulator (the regulator is external on the 75A alternator).

No idea on that. It might be a terminal for the field coil (DF).
