S70 coolant sensor

I replaced the coolant sensor in my overflow tank (simple deal -- just snaps in) but the coolant level warning light is still on.

I disconnected the battery as well.

Any ideas?

How does this sensor work? I measured the good part with a VOM and have an open circuit, yet when I dipped it in water -- no change at all. ?

Is there something I'm missing on this?

THANKS.

I have the same problem.

my coolant tank developed a leak, I got a new one from the dealer, and replaced it.

there is a magnet in the float in the coolant tank.

the sensor responds to the magnet location.

leak is fixed, coolant level is at the right level but coolant light is still on.

I have to get timing belt replaced soon, so will have them look at that at same time.

Thanks.

So a simple magnetic reed switch in that sensor which probably didn't need replacing.

Makes sense as I get the light off when I disconnect the sensor -- so that would mean the magnet isn't moving in the tank and keeping the switch closed. (probably).

I had some chocolate shake get in the system -- thought I had cleaned it out -- but may have to get a new tank.

Thanks for the tip.
