351w coolant temp sensor housing

Ford guys, please help me.

I have a full size 1988 bronco xlt, I removed the stock 302 and had a

351w built. The block used is a 1984-1985 according to Ford. The problem I am having is the coolant temp sensor housing is leaking and I can't find one anywhere. On this engine it is located between the distributor and the left valve cover on the upper intake (stock). It is octogon shaped, about 4-5 inches tall with a swivel near the bottom end that threads into the intake, it has 1 4-5 inch long tube coming out to the left for a coolant line from the heater core and a shorter one that seems to go into the bottom of the throttle body, the sensor threads into a hole near the top of this unit.

I've checked 1987 f150 and bronco's with 302 and they are not the same but may work, there doesn't seem to be a swivel on these. Can anyone tell me if these would work? without the swivel in it I may have to disassemble more of the top end to get it in but I would like to know first or if anyone can tell me where to get a new or used one I would appreciate it.

I have very good digital pics of the part if anyone is interested.

Please help me. Alan.

I have no idea where do get the stock unit. Without looking at it, I have a couple of suggestions.......

Plug it and drill/tap an alternate spot for one you CAn find.

Get an aftermarket intake.

Sorry, MM^^

These thermostat housings are common and fairly cheap replacement items. Have you checked with your local NEW auto parts stores? Napa, Shucks, Auto Zone, etc...

Ok so lets figure out a work around. A threaded nipple into the manifold, a tee on end, the bottom threaded to the nipple, the sensor in the top, a barbed nipple in the side, a short piece of hose, a barbed tee and then the hoses for the heater core and base of throttle body. I would want brass fittings if at all possible for the manifold nipple and the tee mounted on it. The barbed tee will most likely be ether brass or aluminum. It might not be as pretty as the original piece, but will get the job done, probably for a lot longer than the original one lasted.

Thanks Whitelightning, I wasn't sure if making one would affect engine performance or not but it looks like I may not have a choice.

thanks again for the input everyone.

try LMC Trucks. They carry parts for trucks of most types from the late '40s to present(depending on your application). They are the company I turn to for all of my out-of-stock requirements.
