Re: CD changer 1999 Golf, is Panasonic good?

I have the Panasonic 8 disk changer for my 99 Passat. It works fine, and is controlled by my factory radio.

The only problem is that the radio only knows about disks 1-6. To play disks 7 and 8 you have to go to disk 6, then wait for it to finish, and it will move on to disk 7, then 8. You can skip tracks and fast forward to speed the process along.

Or you could not bother loading disks into slots 7 and 8.

Do you have a Golf4 (i.e. 1999 1/2)? Not sure about Golf3, but I have the Panasonic CX-DP610, (6 digit changer) which I've had since I bought my

2000 Golf, think I bought it at Logjamb electronics. I cheaped out and bought the cheaper adapter cable, only thing you give up is the "mix" function (which I don't need)...I splurged and got the 2 adapter brackets from VW, maybe $15. Works fine with my non-Monsoon head unit. It fits in the rear side cargo area pocket that normally holds the first aid kit and flares. Just plug adapter cable into the OEM CD cable, attach the brackets, that's all there was to it. I didn't have to do anything to get my head unit to recognize the changer, worked fine right off the bat.

I too bought the panni changer and "hack" adaptor cable from crutchfeild for my 1998 GTI VR6......worked out real well

When i sold the GTI for the 2002 Passat V6, the hack cable/panni changer fit right in with the Monsoon in the wagon

I guess the only downside is you cannot play MP3 discs on the panni changer

cheers- Mike

The one the dealer sells is also a panasonic with a vw plug and lable on it. I put a VW one in my 99.5 jetta and a Panasonic from crutchfield in my 96 passat. Other then the plug and lable the six disc panasonic is the same one the dealer sells. Be aware that some vw factory radios don't work with some brands of changers but Panasonic ones do.
