recently bought an old 84 4x4 pickup. ignition key can turn it off but it was outfitted with one of those 'push button' switches to the starter to run it. i had it running to get it to my yard now it turns over with the remote starter but i noticed that the dash lights don't come one as well when the ignition is on. does anyone have any quick tips to diagnose the problem?

Check fuses plus you may have a bad ignition switch because it was obviously failing to the point that the last owner installed a push button for starter rather than replace the switch.
