Had same problem with 96 silverado p/u Turned out to be a bad solder joint on the circuit board of the PCM (computer) in the glove box. Varying temperature or vibrations would cause enough flex in the board to cause momentary failure on random occasions. I found this problem by swapping the PCM from another similar truck.
