Nice car, but why cover up the rear plate when we can see the front one?

One really stunning specimen indeed, registered in France, it seems to me. I once drove an Audi A8Q SE 1996 2.8L with 193 HP myself, but soon traded it in, and got an A6Q SE 1999 V6 2.4L Tiptronic with 121 kW/165 HP instead. Why? What was my "problem"? The reason was very simple, costs. The A8 was affordable to buy, but expensive to keep, with high maintenance (service) and insurance costs, high fuel consumption, and so on. In other words, it was affordable for me to buy, but in the long run too expensive for me to keep. Therefore I now drive the "smaller" A6 instead. It is truly also expensive enough for me to keep, since I am no millionaire(ss). But, it is also fabulous to drive, and I really love it. Maybe an A8 for me again the next time? Or maybe even an S8, who knows?

I'm not that rich either, but I love my RS6!

We leased a '98 A8 for three years and though the price was up there the payments were respectable and the only other expense I had was insurance/gas and oil changes, not wanting to wait for the dealer to do it for free. Is the free maintenance deal only a US thing?

Going by the price of the S8 or S6 Avant here in the US, the RS 6 is not that much more, especially when you take into consideration what you are getting for the price.... in my case it was a non-starter because they are hard to get plus we were looking for a little bit more space, which the S6 Avant provided.

He probably forgot about the other one! I had some idiot figure out the license plates on my Jeep a few years back when I blacked out only a letter or two... being the bonehead I blacked out different ones on different pictures and going through them all got the total plate.

In the UK the RS6 is 22% more expensive than the S6, but the RS does include a number of features which are not included in the S. I'm not sure why AoA don't import the RS6 Avant - it's by far the more popular option in the UK. My suspicion is that AoA wanted to include a spare wheel, which meant moving the battery from the wheel-well into the luggage space. The Avant would look very silly with the battery stuck in the middle of the luggage space. Hmm, that begs the question, does the US RS6 Saloon (Sedan?) include fold-flat rear seats?

Plus the fact that only 850 RS 6's are heading this way puts RS 6 owners in a very exclusive club....

I don't know if the RS 6 has folding rear seats, I never thought about looking into that. From what I understand though AoA never imported the S6 sedan because it would perform better than the S8 sedan and cost less. The S6 Avant being heavier would not.... As for the RS 6 Avant, I haven't seen any reasons yet on why they are not coming over here.

The RS6 does not have folding rear seats. Dave

Ah, UK models (both saloon and Avant) do - so I guess that the lack thereof is conditioned by the presence of the battery box in the luggage compartment, and also explains why you don't get the Avant.

To fill an S8 up over here with a 20 gallon tank would cost nearly £100.00 thats about $150.00, if you fancy doing that every 2 days then you have alot of money

Well I would agree that spending $150 every two days on a car would be quite expensive. The question is why are they driving so many miles in the first place? The S8 is not the best in gas mileage but it sure the heck isn't the worse.... The scenario you describe is on the extreme side for most commuters.

The S8 is a $75,000 car that is not bought by just anyone and I suspect if one can afford the car they are not going to scoff at the amount of gas they use or pay for. It's not like we are talking about some average Joe buying a VW Golf then having to spend $150 every two days on gas.

Seriously, a tank of gas every *TWO* days? The S8 is not that much of a gas hog and even in traffic driving you are good for at least 200 miles. If you drive at traffic speeds for 200+ miles you are in your car 24/7. If it is highway commutes that would be at least 350 miles on a tank of gas. I don't know what the commutes are in your part of the world but that equals extreme end for most Americans.
