What is the secret to removing the headlamp switch from a 1990 325i ?

The small panel that surrounds the switch has bolts set into the back, and 4 nuts fix it in place, one in each corner. If i remember correctly, you need to remove the panel underneath it (in front of the driver's knees, houses the headlamp height adjuster and OBC chime on models with those features) and reach up to the nuts. I remember access be being a bit tight...
