4-WHEEL DRIVE NOT ENGAGING

Dec 13, 2003 2 Replies

I'm having a problem w/88 k-2500. When floor selector is moved into 4H 3-4 seconds later the fuse blows. Checked all connectors no sign of wear/chaffing. Any ideas why fuse is blowing /not engaging 4 wheel drive? Front diff oil level is correct no obvious damage to drive train. Last worked about a month ago, no problem at that time.

Any thoughts/help would be appreciated.TIA.

That there problem is the Thermal Actuator. Looking at the front drive axel from the front of the truck, a wire runs into the passenger side of the axel tube. Follow the wire to it's connection, and unplug it. The actuator simply screws out. Replace, plug in... good to go.

you have a 4wd fuse? my '88 K2500 doesn't. anyways, 99% chance your actuator has crapped out, get the 98+ actuator and adapter harness (if you have a 7200# 2500)... I've posted the part # a gazillion times.
