5.3L and newer trucks

I am in need of a new truck and have always liked the 350. The newer trucks I have been looking at all have the 5.3L in them. Is there any issues with the 5.3L (other than piston slap) that I need to really look at when looking at the newer trucks. Anything else to really look for in the newer trucks, I'm looking at 4x4s. Thanks DeeRHunteR

It's interesting that you mentioned this. I'm going to be taking my '03 Silverado back soon because when I get up to hiway speed in 2wd there is an intermittent vibration coming from under the truck. It gets worse when it's cold outside. I can select auto 4wd and it smoothes out to where it's barely noticable. The steering wheel don't vibrate or anything, it's just a noise I can hear and feel in the floor. It only has 7,000 miles on it. Does this make any sense? Have you had any with these kind of symptoms? I'm just wondering what they'll have to do to it and how long should I expect it to be in the shop. Thanks

Most likely a side bearing in the front diff has come apart or is starting to come apart. Unfortunately, this often takes out the clutch pack in the transfer case too. If may be out of commission for a few days depending on what they find.
