Although it isn't a truck I do own a GMC

Hi; If any one knows of a News group about chev cars I'll be glad to post there. In the mean time my wifes 88 Cavlier 2.0 litre intermitently just dies. It starts up right away. And of course it NEVER does it when I drive the car. She has also complained about it stalling when she backs up. It doesn't seem to do it once it has completely warmed up. BUT... Then again it never does it for me when it's cold. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ron

Could be that the EGR passage is plugged with carbon or you could have a MAP sensor that's dying. There is a GM newsgroup but all he people there want to do is argue and complain. Rich B

If the EGR passage was plugged he would have a code 32 set and ZERO driveability issues. EGR causes stalling/rough idle when it's stuck OPEN, not clogged shut. MAP is a possibility but he'd likely have surging idle and poor performance as well.

Yeah, let's start throwing expensive parts at it till we fix it! GREAT IDEA!

Here's a WILD though, how about scanning the ECM for DTC's? What a concept!

Dude, you test the ICM with something other than a scan tool. I'll let you figure out what. Sheesh.

Which works IF you're a tech in a gm garage and have all these parts floating around. Your way doesn't work for the DIY'er.
