Carrying infant in a single cab GMC with airbag off?

I have an '00 GMC Sierra single cab and a baby due soon. I have been looking for a replacement vehicle but am considering keeping the GMC for now, turning off the passenger-side airbag and transporting the baby in the front (and only) seat if this is safe. I've heard the only reason that carrying a baby in the front seat of a vehicle is unsafe is because of the airbag hazard. Are there other safety reasons not to transport the baby in this vehicle with the airbag turned off? Thanks in advance.

It prob wouldn't hurt to cart the kid around in the truck, but make sure that air bag is disabled! It wouldn't hurt to find a family vehicle. I don't know if you have any other kids, but maybe a trailblazer or a mini van, but also depends on your taste. Just make sure the child is belted in the car seat properly and the car seat is properly attached. By the way, the newer cars, ford, dodge or gm, they have latches that the baby seat can hook onto, behind the seat near the speakers near the high mount brake light. well good luck with your new family member on the way, and good luck with what ever decision you make.

My father always just threw me in my seat on his bench 1976 K10. I can attest that it doesn't cause much mental retordation.

If you need a truck, get an extended cab. One with a swing-out 1/2 door would be the best. Have a 96 Chevy 2500K extended cab. My daughter has grown up in that back seat. The Chevy extended cab, two door no swing out, would fit the car seat in. At the time, Ford did not.

She is 12 now and wants to ride in the back, not up front with dad. Except when we're riding in my Trans Am, then she wants the CD play on and the T-Tops off!

If you got to use your truck, turn the air-bag off, face the car seat backwards. You don't want to take the truck to the hospital to pick-up the Mom and Kid. The holspital will check out the car seat and how its attached (I'm in PA) before putting the baby in. Get a van or a sedan for the big day.

Take care!
