Please forgive me as I could not find an active Chevy Auto usenet group. For what it's worth, I own a Chevy S10 truck but this question is about my friend's Chevy Barretta that's giving her some problems. I tried the rec.autos.misc but nobody replied.
I'm not an expert car repair diagnoser. Amateur at the very best and only know how to do the basics (ie, oil filter changes, spark plugs, plug wires, radiator drain/hose-replacement, etc..).
My friend has a 95 Barretta with 139,000 miles. On the highway when going about 45+ miles per hour, it tends to "jump"/"jerk/sputter" forward. When you accelerate after 45MPH, it's a jumpy accelerate. It's definitely NOT the tires as they've been balanced/rotated. I don't have any diagnosis equipment but I'm guessing it might be one of the following:
- fouled spark plug(s) causing misfire I already replaced all 6 of her plug wires. Her back 2 spark plugs are a bitch to get to and almost seems like you have to pull out the engine to get to them. I can probobly try and replace the 4 plugs that I "can" reach/get to and hope that maybe one of those were fouled. Isn't there a little device that tests continuity to see if the plugs are fouled?
- clogged Fuel injector(s) causing a non contiguous flow of fuel? But if this was the case, wouldn't this problem occur at all speeds rather than when around 45 MPH or greater?
Any other ideas on what this might be?
