1996 Grand Voeyger Fuel Gauge

I have a 1996 Grand Voyager that the fuel gauge drops and the chime goes on, then back to it's normal level. This happens intermittently. I just filled the tank and it didn't do it. Do you think something is wrong with the sending unit, if so how difficult is it to repair? Dave Best

It's probably the sending unit. When this happened to my '96 I paid the dealer to fix it. I don't remember how much I paid, but it was probably around $300.

The sending unit is in the fuel tank and, if it's anything like my '88, the tank has to be lowered to get access to the sending unit. And, if you're a DIY kind of person, it's not too bad of a job. However, it's best if someone who's actually done the repair on a '96 say so.

Dave,

I had the same problem on my 96 Grand Caravan. And it was the sending unit. It is part of the electric fuel pump assembly in the gas tank. The fuel tank has to be empted and then dropped to replace the assembly. Don't remember the exact cost because my extended warranty paid all but the $50 deductible. It was replaced at the Dodge dealership. Good luck.
