2000 Town and country backfires during acceleration

My 2000 TC backfires during acceleration, especially hill climbing. The pop seems to come from under engine. The van has been well maintained and has 52k mi. I'm thinking maybe plugs( still has original plugs) or maybe the plug wires. Wife says that it seems to happen more often when a/c is on. Also, can someone let me know how to find error codes on vehicle? Thank You!

Van pops during acceleration. Noise seems to come from under vehicle. ( mostly happens during hill climbs). Vehicle has 52k miles and has been well maintained. Service engine soon light is coming on. Is there a way to get an error code for this? I'm thinking plugs, plug wires or something electrical. Van still has original plugs. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Thank you!

I wish they did. Mine were done around 60,000 miles. The plugs wires and/or coil pack also sound reasonable.

I'd suspect this is happening as the result of a defective spark plug wire. The "pop" you hear is usually backfiring in the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe. It occurs when the wrong plug fires during the exhaust stroke (defective insulation on the wires which are routed adjacent to each other) and/or when unburned fuel mixture from a non-firing cylinder gets into the exhaust. You should get this fixed ASAP so that you don't have (expensive) problems with your catalytic converter.

While you are going to the trouble of replacing the wires, I'd recommend that you change the plugs as well. Our 1999 3.8L needed plugs and wires around 45K miles and 4 years of age. Its been running great since then.
