300M tires

My tires are getting close to needing replacement. I currently have the original Michelin MXV4 225/55R17's that came on my 2003 300M when I bought it, but I have found they are prone to aquaplaning, have poor wet weather traction in general, and have balded surprisingly quickly. I was wondering what 2nd generation tires anyone had gone with and if they are pleased with the choice or not.

Thanks,

Stu

You would probably be happier with something from Bridgestone

How many miles did you get on those tires. They are supposed to be good but expensive. I replaced the horrible Goodyears that came with the 99 300M with the MXV4+ and have been vary happy with them so far. My Avalon has them also.

Jeeze, how many miles - in how many months?

I replaced the original Eagle LS's on my 2000 300M after driving on them for 3 years. Replaced them with Dunlop Sport SP 5000's. No wet weather to say much about hydroplaning yet. Dry traction hasn't let me down yet. Tire is somewhat "rare". Get them at Goodyear.

I was looking for moderate to max summer performance tire. Doesn't exist for 17x7" wheel. Had to settle for "ultra-high performance all season" (which the Dunlop is).

Have a look here for:

Ultra-high performace all season tire:

A friend of mine just put these on his 1999 300M with 17" rims.

They're Kumho ECSTA KH11 tires and tirerack has them for $96/each. I was able to price them at my local shop for $100/each. They were substantially quieter than the Eagle LS tires he had. I'm toying with the idea of getting them too, though I'm going to get them in 235/55/17 instead of the standard

225/55/17. The difference in size from the stock tires is less than 2% and you get slightly more rubber on the road.

Cheers,

Chris
