No oil pressure in 360! help

If you ran a brand new engine without oil pressure long enough to watch the timing "seeming to move about at idle" and wait for a reading on a mechanical gauge, you probably now have bigger problems than faulty oil pump drive to worry about. If the engine was used, with looser clearances, maybe you'll get lucky.

Is this a new motor?? or a cut out used transplanted after a year!

New you should have primed the oil pump. Oil pump should have had initial prime with oil put physically in it before bolting to the engine. Then oil filter should be filled too!

If it's new and you did not prime you may have to remove pump and physically prime cause it won't pump till the primed (oil makes the gears cause suction)

Before start up the final priming is done with a priming tool mopar P4286800 with distributor out and distributor gear / oil pump drive pulled out (turn it counter clockwise with a big screw driver and it will turn up off the gears the grab it with long nose pliers and pull out) insert tool through distributor hole down into pump (put some black electrical tape on hex rod (tool) so as not to gaul you pump drive bushing) and spin it clockwise with a drill till primed turning motor over occasionally to let cam oil holes line up to oil top end.

Now if it's a used motor pull valve covers and look for bent push rods and or kicked lifters. (do that now any ways on a new motor)

Did you prime the pump?

An empty pump won't pump. The last one I saw like that, I got away with removing the oil filter and using a tube to fill up the pump from there.

Put the filter back on and away it went.

The two things you didn't discribe is the very heavy clacking of the dry lifters. "Can't hear yourself think over the noise". Also, no oil in the clear plastic line to the gauge.
