Maybe so, but usually, debates such as the threads on DRL's can lead to a greater understanding of problems and the actions taken to solve them. Among other things such as giving out advice and analyzing situations, the newsgroups are great forums for people to hash out situations which are debatable. Debating online is not much different to debating in real life, and it has been proven effective in our governments on occasion. There are many good ideas and opinions out there...it's in our best interest to hear them. As was once said by someone whose name escapes me "I may not agree with your opinion, but I will fight to the death for your right to express it".

I may not agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I may not understand what you say, but I'll defend to your death my right to deny it.
