ZX brake issues

Hi everyone, I`ve just been away for the weekend in my ZX, and had at one time the brakes go VERY squishy. Basically I pushed the pedal to the floor and there was no resistance, nor was there any slowing down of the car. I pumped the brakes a few times, and they worked fine (at this point the car had stopped, it was rolling to a halt after going up and down two fairly big passes).

Any ideas what this might have been? The brakes worked fine after the pumping, the fluid looks ok (according to a mechanic friend) and is the right level. If it makes any difference, the brake discs where changed today, and one of them snapped where the disc joins the part that goes on the hub (not sure of the terms, the smaller circle that in the middle). It snapped while it was being taken off, it had stuck on.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would be worried about water or air in the hydraulic system, or a faulty servo. This could happen again.

Drum brakes do 'fade' if they get hot, as can happen if used excessively on long slopes, but disc brakes should be immune to that problem.
