Blast, I've got sommat else on that day. Anyway, Mustangs don't handle for toffee and this is a short, handling circuit, I bet the Minis will do well.
Us too. Charlie would defend the Mustang in a heroic SteveH-and-Alfa way, until we discuss handling. :)
She uses the old "well I'll pit my 5.0 litre V8 against your superb handling then" argument.
Yeah well aluminium block 5.0 litre v8 TR7s go quicker than Mustangs and have the added bonus of pretty good handling (when upsprung from the hairdressers springs) and *they* have trouble fighting off minis at Mallory so I think it would be an interesting race.
OTOH handling or no, I'd *far rather* have a v8 under my right foot.
Aye. Just get the TR7s to bring banana skins...
Oh yes. I was stood behind the pit 'wall' for a couple of the races and it was awesome with the cars screaming past inches away...
Mixed bag for us; second in the first race (led the race, too), but a DNF in the second after a mystery electrical problem :(
But a decent party on Saturday night, and the weather was great! The ice-cream guy must have made a fortune...

I'm guessing a Dolly as you mentioned mysterious electrical forces at work and I sense the tentacles of Lucas, Prince of Darkness in this matter... ;)

It's just not what you expect, is it? Looks vaguely like a 'merkin pickup, it ought to sound like it...
Well, a V8 would be cool... Officially the series is meant to be relatively cheap though and a good XE with 230bhp+ will set you back about £7k.
The pickups are officially the feeder series into V8 stock car racing, so you get a mix of guys; those who enjoy the pickup racing and will stay there, and those getting big oval experience to move up into V8's.
Hmmm. I read the regs as saying you had to buy the engine (and everything else) off official suppliers, and not play with it.

Entrants are limited to two engine types, the Ford Zetec and Vauxhall C20XE. They are supplied tuned to produce ~230bhp at ~8500rpm by official suppliers e.g. Toovey, or we use B+J engines. They are sealed so we can't mess with them further. Repairs in the paddock are permitted e.g. replace a head gasket, but to get in you have to break the seals so you automatically are sent to the back of the grid, and you have to have a 'chat' with the scrutineers about what's happened...
Do you then get it resealed after the race, and if so, how? (Ie back to the suppliers?)

If a team has managed to fix their engine at the track, the scrutineers have new seals and the engines are resealed there and then. If the engine is not fixable at the track then TBH it'll need a rebuild, so it's back to the supplier who will put new seals on when they're done.
