You consider this to be a classic car do you ?

The '89 Prelude has a better claim to classic status than the later versions of that model that Honda pumped out. It's not my cup of tea, but I can see the attraction. Blinkered dinosaurs like you only ever look into the past. That's why *you'll* always be behind the curve.

The MkIII Prelude is not, and will never be, a classic.
It's just a bland Jap coupe.

That's just a bland Brit quip.

What ever, it's still not a classic.
Just because something is over 10 years old does not make it a classic, just old - for example, the Austin A30 / 35 / 40 had to wait over 20 years before people seriously started to call them classic.

Well don't be such silly planks then !.. It's an old car, nothing more and nothing less.

The message from snipped-for-privacy@italiancar.co.uk (SteveH) contains these words:
So? Given time even the most appalling crap gains classic status in at least some peoples eyes. When they were current who would have thought Allegros or Capris worthy of the name or go back another generation to small sidevalve Fords and bubble cars. The notion of PVT (post vintage thoroughbred) was dying when I first became interested in cars in the
50s and now seems completely absent from the cars I remember as mostly crap even when new.

You've proved your point. Age is no guarantee of maturity

Pretty sure a Rover 600 one will fit --- in any case it is of a design that most raddiators shops can repair.

Chris Bolus
Why not find the local radiator repairer and get a recore? It's often cheaper and certainly more permanent.

An utterly reliable car but utterly boring car to drive even by Honda standards, even a Granada is a more involving drive.

Cheek of it, Capris are great!

I haven't seen a Granada for ages... yet I see similar-aged Hondas every day... Hmmm... :-P

Like most 4 cylinder Hondas (and 4 pot Honda powered Rovers)they sail through MOTS and have only two real reliability faults --- the distributer ignition module and like on the OPs car raddiator corrosion the latter is not helped if the correct "pink" antifreeze hassn't used and changed bi-yearly. I keeping one for a a long time I would pick both parts as spares while they can still be got. But as I said very boring car to drive.

No; that depends where one happens to be driving to.......

Ah but the generation 4 VTEC models will be.
They have all the right things going for them.
1)peppy engine that makes driving fun.
2)toys and gadgets to eventually go wrong.
3)A body shell that was never meant to last to classic status but probably will.
4)A unique "Spaceage" dashboard.
5) a Recarro interior.
Things like the dash, and the 4ws and the decent performance from the VTEC engine will make the Gen4 a classic in about 20 years. No doubt about it, just like some of the older Datsun and Toyotas are starting to get classic status now. Think of the Datsun Zcars, and the original Mustang inspired Celica st2000, plus some of the bigger examples of Jap "Executive" cars. some of the newer models like those by Lexus, The preludes, Skylines, and Supras, and even the MR2 and MX5's will make it as classics.

One day we'll look at our cars, moulded out of matrix materials, powered by fuel cells and with electric motors in the wheels and polycarbonate windows and we'll consider almost _anything_ produced to date to be a classic. There's no variation in time passing which makes one car or object of any description more significant than any other. Don't mistake your personal likes and dislikes for some sort of received "classic" status because that's an illusion. Some people even like Reliant Robins, and you can't tell me that _they_ will ever come again. I used to drive a Citroen 2CV and if you're looking for character in a car......you'd be mistaken. Cars have no character; we owners imbue them with such things using them as benchmarks of time passing and of technical advances and the societal changes which drive them. It's a really interesting and ever-expanding window into the preoccupations of society and also into causality, or at least into the part of that great mystery which we humans are capable of comprehending. Perception never stops expanding. Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast.

Thanks for the advice re radiators but the problem's been circumvented with a £3.99 tube of waterproof epoxy resin.
