Maybe someone added it for a vacuum guage?

I didn't notice what was in the picture but I gather it isn't a vacuum take-off. However you would normally have a non-return valve for the servo take-off. If you had a vacuum gauge you'd run a tube to a much smaller take-off on the other side of the manifold.

Ahhh, I see. Thought it looked odd!

But, I didn't realise Minis had such nasty things? Or at least, not in UK spec, maybe later for the Yank market. Never had a mk1 or 2 though, let alone a Cooper :(

So what's the groups final thoughts as to what to list it as?

It's going on Ebay for my mate so will be started at a paltry £1.00 anyway coz we live life on the edge. ;-)

and I've put some more "girlie" pics on my webspace as a thanks. :-)

I'd just stick them up as a pair of HS2s with A series manifold to suit Mini, Minor, Metro, Austin 1100/ 1300 (and variants), etc. Gives you a wider market, and you never know, you mind find that ever popular muppet with a Mini City who thinks it'll give him more power than the standard HS4 he's got fitted. Plus any originality freaks out there can find them easier that way.

Buggered if I know what they're worth really. It is Ebay, and Ebay is full of idiots who'll pay more than new prices on the ground it must be a bargain, although with carbs they might not quite hit new prices of course. Only pair I had on an A series manifold got me 25 quid years ago, but Triumph HS4s on manifold seem to get anything from 20 to 120 quid on Ebay, so you might get lucky :)

Speaking of getting lucky.. You lucky b'stard ;)

On the other hand you put off people who know what they're looking for because it looks as if you haven't a clue waht they're off. There's no point in listing all the A-series cars. In any case the spec isn't really suitable for a 1300 so you wouldn't do your reputation on eBay any good.

I'd just say they were twin SU HS2 (1 1/4") carbs on A-series manifold with linkages, etc.* Spec. AUD104 (Mini Cooper) with ?? (rich/standard/lean) needles.

  • Are the heat shields and springs fitted? Is the fuel pipe connecting the carbs present? Have you got the air filter? I think I saw the air filter elbows in the pics.

They're not all that useful for even a 998 in reality, compared to a single HS4, preferably on a decent manifold. But apart from the needles, they're OK for a 1275, in as much as they were fitted to them (I'm not a fan of twins on most engines, just saying).

And my Triumph 1500 engine has twin HS2s on it as standard, so why would they be any worse on a 1275 A series?

Me, I'd stick a HiF 38 or 44 on and be done with though :)

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Stuffed" saying something like:

Yep. I've consistently found a big single SU to be a good solution to a lot of problems.

You've answered that question yourself. Apart from the needles they'd be fine.

I agree, except that I might have a bonnet with two little bulges in it for twin SUs and not enough clearance for one in the middle.
