It was the sweet 6 pot and could never be the tractor :-)
Yeah!!! :)
While the GT6 has some undoubted virtues there has to be some reason why it was outsold substantialy by the BGT...despite being quite a bit swifter. The BGT is roomier, handles better and is more robust mechanically than the Triumph. As a classic ownership prospect the best of either would be very nice but I'd still choose a BGT I think and if money was no object the V8 will answer the GT6's undoubted performance advantage. In the bargain basement end a rubber bumper BGT with a ticket is yours for
1000 quid. You could probably drive it arond for a year or two with minimal attention and provided it didint get too much rustier....bit of waxoyl etc get you your money back . A GT6 bought for a grand would be a resto project and probably a money pit. Jonners
GT6 was a never a serious contender
The real tractor engine in the Tr4 was a much better unit.
...and yet, despite all that the BGT is a charmless piece of shed. Why is the GT6 better? One name: Michelotti! Classic car ownership is rarely about logic ;-)
Other than being fastback coupes not a fair comparison the GT6 was Spitfire based - MG Midget competitor. The car you should be measuring against the MGB GT is the TR6.

Really. A number of my friends owned MBGs and I owned a GT6 in period context. I can assure you that the Triumph was a much better car in every respect other, perhaps, than interior space. Quicker, prettier, more comfortable, better equipped, better road-holding (forgetting the early swing-axle cars), sounded nicer, more discerning owners, etc. Delighted to see it get the result.
