Can somebody point me to a source of spares please, specifically for my Rover 3500 speedo drive on the gearbox.

Try JPAT, down Devon way. Sorry, haven't got a number handy, just put jpat into google. (Initials are for J Palmer Auto Trans) Badger.
Are you sure it's not just the output flange loose? IIRC, the speedo gear is a friction drive and can slip if this is the case.
The flange is tight, all works back to drive.
In which case it might be easier to contact a specialist for your model for the actual drive since this is more a car maker's part than B-W spare. The problem being there are likely several gear/drive combinations for different rear axle ratios, etc. Or is the part difficult to get?
