my wifes cousin has a chevy van that was stolen and recovered..they busted the hell out of the cloumn on the left side so they could get to the slide mechanism which has the rod down to the wiring harness plug. we were hoping to just get new parts and replace the column at the tilt the question is.. is there a tool that seperates the tilt mechanism. we cn see little pieces with threads inside.it must come apart somehow but ive never seen a too for it or anything thx for any info jerome

Snap-on CJ 134, tilt steering wheel puller. The shop had one but I've never used it We did several recovered stoled cars and found it easier to replace the entire column with one from the local self-service junkyard.

F**kin car thieves! No respect for other's property, they end up, if ever caught, with a wrist slap and back stealing cars the next day. Otta cut off their right hand!

there are some locksmiths that can repair it for you. they will have the needed tools. note; you can run very well into a mess when you take the column apart at the tilt section. another solution is that you could go to a salvage yard and purchase a used column for usually less than $100 bucks.

g'luck
