Help 1997 Intrepid

Oct 10, 2005 1 Replies

my 1997 intrepid seems to be locked in 2nd gear. it will not shift at 35 mph.... the engine just revs. wife says that the engine light came on then went off.... came back on again. is this a trans axle problem, tranny, torque converter or diagnostic problem?? any help would be great.

Your transmission is locked in "limp mode." It's starting out in 2nd gear and staying in 2nd gear. There is something wrong with either the transmission, the electronic controller, or more likely one of the speed sensors. (There are two -- input and output.) The dealer or a shop with the right diagnostic tool can tell you.
