neon cutting out under hard acceleration

My friend has a neon with DOHC and also a minivan, 2.5 turbo. They both cut out under hard acceleration. They can be driven at highway speeds, but if you feed lots of fuel they will cut out for a few seconds and then start pulling again. They will continue to do this as long as your foot is to the floor. Neither shows any codes. Any ideas? any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Dale

Well, don't know how old the vehicles are but perhaps it's timing. Could be running rich or lean. Hard to tell.
