Do you have to loosen the intake manifold or oil pan for clearance when reinstalling the chain cover? '74 W-200. Getting the chain cover back on it's a really tight fit. Smears the gaskets out of place. If you loosen the pan, won't that muck up the gasket all the way to the back? First offense on this procedure. Been lucky for hundreds of thousands of miles on several rides.

Intake does NOT have to be removed. Loosen the first two or three oil pan bolts. Don't use silicon except at the joint between the block & timing cover. Use Hytack or some type of gasket cement for the gasket end pieces I have use some OLD push rods in the top bolt holes to pry the cover down
