Coolant leak ???

My "91" is leaking coolant fluid and I cant see where its coming from! The radiator, heater box, hoses and water pump are dry. Coolant fluid is pouring out under truck from the transmission area. Im bringing it to a mechanic tomorrow. Im guessing i'll be told I need a head gasket or freeze plug??? Anybody else experience this problem??? Thanks, John

91' are notorious for bad gaskets. Mine sprung a coolant leak when a small gasket between the intake manifold and head let go. Initially, it was difficult to detect just where the leak was coming from as it ran down the engine block in a very thin flow.

Years later, one of the cylinder heads cracked which allowed a small amount of coolant to dis- appear into one of the cylinders. I ended up replacing both heads with factory new replace- ments and also Ford's latest gasket set that covered everything from the top of the block and up. These gaskets were MUCH improved over the originals. The new gaskets also address the problematic leaking valve covers.

Could be the lower intake manifold gasket. Coolant runs through the lower intake manifold and it is common for these engines to develop leaks there.
