I hooked up a code reader to the 2002 explorer with a V6 and it gave me the above code. Does anyone know what the possible fix would be. Replacing the sensor? Cleaning the valve? Something else?
DTC code PO401

Insufficient EGR flow detected. 90% of the time it's a bad DPFE. You can verify that with a handheld vacuum pump and a DVM, or just take your chance and replace the sensor. Google the archives of this group for a lot more information.
Check with your local Ford dealer... there is a customer satsfaction program that extends the warranty period on the DPFE sensor. IIRC, the program was
02M01 and extended the warrahty period to an additional 2 years or 40,000 km in Canada... If you are the original owner or purchased the unit from a Ford dealer, you should have received a customer notification letter...
thanks for all of the advice. i am going by ford today to purchase a new sensor...
