Weird Transmission Problem

Sep 27, 2003 1 Replies

My Explorer has 75K miles and tonight it did something it has never done before. I was in 'first' gear and when I accelerated it would not shift until I released the gas pedal. The reason I noticed is because the RPM was like 4500 in 'first' I was like. "Umm shift."

So I pulled over and moved the gear shifter to park then back to drive. Pressed the gas and it was like it was NOT in gear, like being in neutral the car just revved up. So I moved the gear shifter to reverse and that worked then back into drive and it was fine after that. So I drove home and now writing this.

Would you consider this to be an indication something is going wrong? The car was flawless on the drive home after, my thought is maybe I didn't have it all the way in gear, thus causing the problem. Any suggestions, comments, and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.
