The check engine light is blinking while there is a shudder. Also there is a grinding noise in the left rear tire area. Don't know exactly what's up. Thinking the brakes...

Flashing CEL indicates a class A misfire..... reading the code(s) stored should indicate which cylinder(s) are affected. You think you may have a problem with the brakes......
Both of these concerns should be addressed before you drive the car any more...
