'87 Ford Taurus Plug Wires

Should these be purchased from the dealer? Or will whatever Autozone, Carquest, and the like sell me be as good as what I get from the dealer?

Any plug wire manufacturers to avoid? Any preferred?

Also, in the past I have only worked on 4-cylinder Japanese cars. Anything special about replacing the plug wires on an 87 Ford Taurus? Is there any reason to pull the plugs, too?

All suggestions appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Any reason to pull the plugs? If its a 87 and never been done just buy new ones. Its not that much money.

Non of the aftermarket plug wires are going to be marked with a cylinder number and cut to exact length like the originals. You just have to be very careful and do one at a time. Start with the longest and work your way down. Don't buy the cheapest wires. The lifetimes ones are not that much more money. I don't think most aftermarket ones are as good as the originals, but they will work. They certainly are better than 16 year only originals that are leaking. Start you car at night and look closely at the plug wires with the hood up in a dark area. If you see a light show around the plug wires, your way past due for new wires.
