Recent tune up made it run better than ever. Now on cold start ( mornings ) it revs up normally but then dies out. After driving a block it will idle, but it's rough. Anyone been through this ?

Had a similar problem with my 93, 3L after being adjusted to pass the smog check. At idle, hot or cold, the idle speed continually cycled high and low. Was getting ready to have it checked out when the timing chain broke and blew a head gasket and the rest is history....
