'94 bird 4.6L possible flooding & gas in oil

normal tank mileage 360-380. bought some bad gas and got 245 miles that tank. car running bad. white smoke coming out of exhaust. idle drops drastically when stopped with foot on break. hesitation when touch gas pedal. got new tank of gas (high octane) went 51 miles on 6 gallons of gas. changed plugs and oil. noticed gas smell in oil. inside car smells of unburnt fuel when running. think possible injector stuck but not sure how to check. please advise any info.

Pull the engine codes. THE CEL does NOT have to come on or stay on for codes to be thrown and stored. You could have; IAC valve, TPS, EGR, or IMRC problems, maybe even just a vacuum leak.

I bet it's the Fuel PRess Reg

Pull the vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator check for fuel in it.

though the FPR may be bad without that happening....

Brand? Citgo, right?

The latest mantra from the media preaches that all gasoline comes from the same storage tank farm / barge no matter what brand you buy, only difference being a speck of additives thrown in the underground tanks.

So what does citgo have to do with it ??

I'm curious to hear what you have to say since I have a 95 T-Bird LX 4.6 that seemed to choke on a bad tank of Citgo gas about 6 months ago.

That is technically correct.. but the KEY is those additives. And the condition of those tanks.

And it's rubbish; anyone who's been victimized by Sohio/Standard/BP in the midwest .. until they recently changed their ways.. knows different - FIRST HAND!

Unless you're a socialist, you should be avoiding Citgo on principle, as it's run by Chavez in Venezuela.

But on the practical side, the ONLY TIME I ever had Catalytics Curl up in a molten ball was immediately after a desperation fillup at a mom/pop citgo. I only use Speedway otherwise... and by the way NEVER have to add injector cleaners.

And, yes, Jeff, that is only anecdotal.

I fully recommend using -LOCALLY- high volume brand from high volume stations... if that happens to be Speedway, you cant go wrong.
