Disabling passenger airbag on a UK '05 Focus

Apr 30, 2006 4 Replies

My wife wants to have the passenger airbag disabled in her Focus so that she can put the rear facing baby seat in the front with her.

Just had it serviced so asked them to disable it. They said it could not be done and would not offer a reason why.

Can anyone confirm if this is true?

Many thanks

Liability.

You could always simply unplug the firing cable.

Can it be done and will the dealer do so is two different animals. Most dealers do not want the liability, but yes it can be disabled..

BTW, just so you know, there is a procedure in the USA to get this done:

If she realized how much safer your kids are when riding in the car seat and strapped into the back seat she wouldn't want to put the child in front. It is the toughest part of the car as far as I know.
