i have a problem(obvious really!), with the accelerator pedal fully depressed the car will get to 3500-4000 and its like someone applies the handbrake, if i keep it on a light throttle it will rev past this nearly to the limiter. also the revs "hang up" when the clutch pedal is depressed although this fault is more intermittent, any help much appreciated

with the mass air sensor unplugged the car will rev freely and feels much better although its not smooth at idle but i wouldnt expect it to be. i have removed the mas and it seems clean, what are the chances of it being the black box attached to the mas?
