Sable/Taurus Air Cond Compressor Question

I have a 2003 Sable. Is it normal for the air conditioning compressor to cycle on and off even when the air conditioning is not on in the car. I'm getting the normal air conditioning condensation drip on the pavement under the car even on cool days with the heat partially on.

Thanks.

yes above 45 deg or so... but not in vent position.

Yes, if you are operating it in the 'Defrost' mode. If not you are likely low on refrigerant

Do you have manual or automatic climate control?

With the automatic, the compressor may run in all modes but vent (arrow at face picture), or heat (arrow at feet.)

For the manual, it will run in A/C or defrost.

I have the manual control and the air conditioning compressor definitely cycles on and off in heat mode with arrow pointed at both face and feet (the control is not pointed at either of the defrost modes). The compressor does not run in vent mode.
