son screwed up.......

this is an 1984 bronco v-6.

battery went dead so, son took one out of another car- it looked the same and hooked it up. only he didn't pay any attention to the posts and they were opposites, so he reversed the leads, basically.

he said that he noticed a hefty arc when he attached the lead, but didn't sense his error. did so. after about 10 seconds and unhooked the leads then.

long story - short - put in correct battery, engine spins, but no spark.

i know something blew out when the poles are reversed, but i know that certain things usually go first in a case like this, wondering where to look on the ignition system and then work my way through the system.

right now, i figure the alternator is probably blown, but what about the ignition system? he didn't have time to turn on the key.

the alternator wouldn't cause the engine not to start, or at least my thinking is along those lines.

so, i'm all ears on this one.

There is a fusible link right off the battery. If you tug on the wire it will stretch. Be gentle. Replace it ONLY with the correct fusible link or pay later. It's easy to fix.
