DOT 5 (Silicon) Brake Fluid

Can DOT 5 brake fluid be used in a Focus with ABS? Does all of the old dot

4 fluid have to be flushed out first?

Gary

Do NOT use DOT5 fluid in ABS equiped vehicles, it has a silicon base that aerates under abs braking. This causes air in the lines and ultimately brake failure. However, you should be able to use the DOT5.1 stuff which has a higher boiling point. On anything but an all out race car the DOT4 should be plenty good.
