1989 E350 Econoline Motorhome with no history of maintenance: what to look for? (2023 Update)

Looking at a lifestyle change retiring, picked up an 89 Motorhome. The unit has 98,000 kms on it. Can't find any history of maintenance or a manual in it. Going to do all req'd for 100,000 scheduled for motor:grease, fluids, filters, belts, hoses..(timing belt?)(tranny filter?) I will clean fuses, switches and connections visible. If any one has any suggestions for this rv rookie, much appreciated.

For your 1989 E350 Econoline motorhome, here are a few specific things to keep in mind when maintaining it:

  1. Check the transmission: The E350 Econoline motorhome of 1989 model year is likely to have been equipped with the E4OD transmission. This transmission is known to have a few common issues such as overheating and solenoid failure. Be sure to have the transmission serviced and inspected regularly.
  2. Check the suspension: The suspension system on an E350 Econoline motorhome is known to be robust, however, regular use and age can take a toll on the components. Check for leaks, worn bushings and ball joints and have them replaced if needed.
  3. Check the brake system: The brake system on an E350 Econoline motorhome is known to be robust, however, regular use and age can take a toll on the components. Inspect the brake pads, rotors, and calipers, and have them replaced if needed.
  4. Check the Tires: Tires are an important component of any motorhome, check the tread depth, age, and air pressure, replace them if needed.
  5. Check the cooling system: The cooling system is critical in keeping the engine running at the right temperature, check the coolant level and hoses, and have them replaced if needed.
  6. Check the electrical system: The electrical system is critical in keeping all the systems running, check the battery, alternator, and starter, and have them replaced if needed.
  7. Check the fuel system: The fuel system is critical in delivering fuel to the engine, check the fuel filter, fuel lines, and fuel pump, and have them replaced if needed.
  8. Timing belt: Timing belts have a recommended replacement interval, it's important to check if the timing belt has been replaced and if not, consider replacing it to prevent engine damage.

It's worth noting that this is just a general list, and depending on the specific model and the use of the motorhome the maintenance can vary, it's always best to consult the owner's manual or consult with a qualified RV or Ford mechanic for specific maintenance recommendations for your motorhome.
