2000 Ranger engine block problems

Aug 12, 2004 0 Replies

HI, My buddy has a 2000 Ranger 2.5L, with 60,000 miles. Recently, while driving in town, he heard a bang from the engine and lots of smoke billowed out from the engine. He thought it might have been a head gasket, but today while doing a compression check, we found a large hole on the right side of the block, below the #2 plug. This truck is not driven hard and recently had an oil change. Anyone have a clue as to what happened? Has this occurred with Rangers in the past? I can only go on what my buddy tells me, but I know he is not abusive with his vehicles.

TIA JB
