Outside Temp Sensor Location

Aug 07, 2004 1 Replies

Hi,

I have a 1996 Explorer AWD V-8, and the outside temp gauge is starting to give erratic readings this summer. Sometimes it reads ICE and -40ºF when it is actually over +80ºF. Not sure what the problem is, but it seems to be temperature related - possibly a cold solder joint. Does anyone know where the outside temperature sensor is located, and how to remove the display so I can check it?

BTW, my Explorer has 159,000 miles on it now and this is the first issue I have had with it - it's been a great vehicle.

Thanks, Jeff
