'96 Ranger XLT arm rest lid / latch

Jan 14, 2004 3 Replies

Has anyone had to replace the latch on the lid / cover of a '96 Ranger's arm rest? Mine has broken off, elastic band holds it closed, now. Was hoping I could replace it myself, but looks like padding of lid would have to come off. Can not see how this would be done with out breaking it. - MikeyG

Did you save the broken latch part? Mine broke off and I glued it back on with a hot glue gun. Since it has to take a lot of stress I gobbed a lot of hot glue around the base of the latch to hold it in place. It has worked very well for me and does not cause an ascetic problem since you can't see it. I suppose that epoxy would work well also, but the quick setup time of the hot glue was nice.

Thanks Robin, I will give that a try; I did save the broken piece. - MikeyG

Mine broke right after I bought it. I fixed it with the hot glue gun and it lasted several years. I had to re-do it a few months back but that is a nice thing about the hot glue because you can clean the old stuff our pretty easily and it is flexible. First I tacked it in place then I injected a lot of glue around the base to hold it in securely.
