buying a high mileage Ranger?

thanks so much for the many responses to my questions about Ranger gas mileage. so I'm looking for my next Ranger and finding a lot of 90K and

100K Rangers. kind of wondering about that - if I buy one with 100K miles what kind of major repairs are on the horizon, or are they good for another 100K w/o worry? if you bought a 100K Ranger what would you replace/fix/maintain IMMEDIATELY because it would be going out anyway? ideas about this?

I don't know... I had over 125K on my 93 Ranger when I traded it in, and it needed nothing that I could think of. It was the 3.0.

Guess it's all in how the miles were put on it, and how well it was serviced that matters. Make the seller do a full Carfax report at least.

Give the entire rig a good look and see if anything obviousl is wrong. i.e. leaks, cracked hoses/belts etc.. At the least I'd change the oil/filter.

If you can get the truck for a day, haul it to your mech and have him do a leakdown test on the engine to make sure it's in decent shape.

IMO, the 100k "barrier" is BS these days. My last two Toyotas have gone well over 200k before I sold 'em - but I'm a maintenance nut.

If the rig's been well maintained, I wouldn't sweat the mileage..

I just bought an `04. And I hope to get over 300,000 miles, may push it further. I am a bit of a nut when it comes to the routine maintenance too. I have sold several cars at or about the 200,000 mile mark that people could not believe the condition of. And I have seen a couple vehicles that were pushing 500,000 miles that were looked to be in pretty good shape. This is my first new truck, so will see how it goes. Being in control of the maintenance from the start I have no doubt about it reaching the 300K mark.
